Powder Keg Volunteers Wanted!

Without an army of volunteers we would not be able to host Powder Keg Beer and Chili Festival for over 4000 people annually. It is because of the support of this community that it has become such a success and an economic driver for the region!

Volunteers are also an essential part of the event’s success. We hope you will consider supporting us as a festival volunteer this year and joining in on the fun! Not only will you have a great time, you will receive:

  • An official festival t-shirt, which will be your uniform during your shift
  • A tasting glass
  • Please wear your GSA badge to receive hours credit. You must report your own hours. There is a link on the For Current GSAs page.

Below are instructions and descriptions that the festival is required to follow and the festival’s guidelines, please familiarize yourself with them. Topics covered: Tent Supervisors, SWAT (Sanitation Waster Attendants), Admissions and Ice and Keg Runners

Please remember to show up 15 minutes before your shift to check in. The volunteer check-in entrance is on the south side of the festival towards the end of Swasey Parkway close to the admission gate.

We will hold a short orientation at the start of each shift in order to cover NH regulations, server duties, and any other pertinent information.

VOLUNTEER NOW! 

Greeters

Greeters will wear “Ask Me” buttons and will answer guest questions before the doors open and after the event opens. They will offer program maps to guests waiting in line. These volunteers MUST be outgoing, cheerful, talkative, extroverted and knowledgeable about the event (this information will be offered prior to event dates).

Admissions

This area has several volunteer positions: Cashiering, Will Call, Backstock, and Line Control. Cashiers are required to have some experience with cash registers, making change, etc. Will Call will check in guests who are on Will Call lists or have pre-purchased tickets to the Brewfest. Backstock volunteers will ensure that the cashiers are fully stocked with tasting glasses to give to guests. The Line Control volunteer will be positioned at the head of the admission line to facilitate smooth processing of the line. One captain will be appointed to coordinate this group.

Ticket Booth

One booth will be located in each venue in the beer fest and next to the chili fest and will sell additional taste tickets to guests. Must be comfortable with cash handling and making the change. Patrons purchasing more tickets will need to have their bracelets punched to ensure that they do not more than allow. The shifts will begin in the morning at 9:00 am and end when we sell out of tickets.

Merchandise

One booth will be located in the venue sell beer caddies and t-shirts. Must be comfortable with cash handling and making change. These volunteers MUST be outgoing, cheerful, talkative, extroverted and knowledgeable about the products.

Tent Supervisor

The supervisor’s main function is to coordinate any assistance between server and ice/keg runners. May relieve servers for bathroom breaks if needed.

The PKBCF is meant to be an enjoyable experience for all participants, volunteers and staff included. If someone is being obnoxious the servers have no obligation to serve them. Please tell assist as supervisor about the problem.  One captain will be appointed to coordinate this group.

Ice/Beer Runners

Volunteers in this position must be able to lift heavy items this position will help to bring ice to the booths. May assist in moving kegs to vendor’s locations at delivery.  Must be able to lift and move items without restrictions.

Chili Judging Runners (4-6)

Volunteers in this position must be able to gather samples from each chili participate and place them in the proper category.   One captain will be appointed to coordinate this group. Judging will be held first. Counting of people choice will start at 2:30 pm and announced at 3:30 pm.

S.W.A.T.

Sanitation and Waste is very important to running a great event.  There will be a number of garbage cans that will need to be emptied regularly. With an expected crowd of 4,000 plus this will be essential in maintaining a clean and healthy atmosphere. Garbage bags and dumpster will be provided for disposal of trash. Garbage cans will be placed out prior to the event starting.

Set-up / Break down

Assist the Events staff with preparation for the event. This can include setting up helping Chili and beer vendors to their table. Clean-up – Help with some cleanup and take down at the end of fest including moving empty kegs, tables, etc.

Don’t forget to show up 15 minutes before your shift to check in. Please Park in volunteer parking at the Exeter Parks and Recreation Department located at 32 Court St.  Give yourself time to walk from parking to the fest.  Again, thank you for volunteering and have a great time at the PKBCF.
