After a two-year break, we are going to Journey to the North Pole on December 9th to help Santa again. We have such an amazing time as we support the major fundraiser of the Believe in Books Literary Foundation.  It is also a fabulous way to get into the Christmas spirit by seeing all the excitement from the kids and their families, as well as having fun with fellow GSAs!

For those unfamiliar with it, the Journey to the North Pole is a family event where the families board the train in Lincoln and travel to the North Pole. We, the elves, will meet the train and then participate in the shows. There are 2 shows and in between we have a break and they feed us pizza. They provide us complete costumes (jacket, hat, gloves, pants, shoe covers and lanterns) and we each need to decide our elf name, age and what we do in Santa’s workshop. They have changed the format some, but I don’t know a lot of details. Instead of having Santa walk around the theatre, they will dismiss small groups at a time to go out and meet Santa and take photos.

They only want to have 15 elves.  If we have more folks interested than slots, we will see if we can get creative. Keep in mind that they really rely on us being there to help make the magic.

Some of us make it a little getaway, going up on Friday afternoon and staying overnight at the Indian Head Resort. And we typically have a little gathering after we volunteer, back at the hotel. The shift is from 4:00pm to 9:15pm. Unlike most of our social events, we will get GSA volunteer hours for ELF time.

If you want to sign up with a significant other or family member, please email me their name. We can also help facilitate carpools. Some folks do go up just for the evening.

If you are interested but can’t do the date, please consider volunteering a different day(s). They run on weekends from Thanksgiving to Christmas in both Lincoln and North Conway. They would really appreciate the help and it is such a great cause. Check out their website for more information. www.journeytothenorthpole.org

This is an amazing event and really a multi-WIN! It is a fun way to socialize with other GSAs, we are helping a wonderful cause, we’re getting into the holiday spirit, and we earn hours!!! I hope we see some faces from the past as well as some new ones. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Sue (aka Okey Dokey) at socialcommittee@nhgsa.com. Also, if it fills up but you are still interested, let us know.
