GSA Author Panel

On May 10th from 3:00-4:00 pm, we will host a panel of GSA authors.  We are excited to hear more from these GSAs about their background and their experience as an author.  We will hear from Dr. Mark Okrant, Mike Bruno, and Dick Hatin.

Dr. Mark Okrant: Mark Okrant is an author and professor emeritus of tourism management at Plymouth State University in New Hampshire. He has conducted tourism research in New Hampshire, Maine, South Dakota, Alaska, Canada, Romania, and Puerto Rico, and is past president of a leading global organization for tourism researchers, the Travel and Tourism Research Association. Mark has been a guest contributor for El Coqui, a tourism magazine in western Puerto Rico, and provided a bi-weekly NH Travel Guru column for InDepthNH.org. Presently, he writes a weekly column for The Laker (thelaker.com).

Mike Bruno: Michael was born and raised in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. He traveled throughout the state with his father when he was young and took interest in New Hampshire history.  As a young adult, Michael stopped at the historical markers that dotted the Granite State highways while riding his motorcycle. He found each of the markers intriguing with their unique story.

Now more than thirty-years later, Michael has embarked on a project to visit and provide expanded information regarding each of the 267 New Hampshire historical markers that are currently exhibited along the highways in the Granite State. Read more here.

Dick Hatin: Dick was born in Burlington, Vermont where he attended area schools graduating from St. Michael’s College in 1971 with a B.A. in English Literature. He went on to a successful career in local and state government until 1974 when he was recruited to join the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). He worked for the New England Office of Community Planning and Development. He retired as the Deputy Director of the New England Office of Community Planning and Development in 2010. During his government career Mr. Hatin wrote several articles for regional and national publications serving the interests of those involved in Community Renewal.  Recently he has undertaken a serious pursuit of creative writing.
