Blog: Journey through Cultural Enrichment: Exploring Dover’s Woodman and Children’s Museums

On the 15th of November, a delegation comprising enthusiastic Granite State Ambassador volunteers embarked on an enlightening journey to Dover, New Hampshire. Our purpose was to explore two distinguished institutions that adorn the cultural and educational landscape of the region: the Woodman Museum and the Children’s Museum of NH. Both are members of the NH Heritage Museum Trail.

Exploring Hidden Gems: The New Hampshire Telephone Museum and Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum

Recently a group of Granite State Ambassador (GSA) welcome center volunteers explored the quaint village of Warner, NH to experience it as a traveling guest would. As always, it didn’t disappoint! With 5 museums in the village, it was hard selecting just 2 to visit. We are excited to share what we learned about the New Hampshire Telephone Museum and the Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum.

Upcoming volunteer hours at our Campton Office are posted below with planned tasks. If the shift is for 1 person and you want to come as a pair, just email me and I’ll add the second person.

Address: Exit 28 off I-93. 399 NH Route 49, Campton NH 03223  near the Campton Dam and across from the Dollar General. If it’s snowing, call ahead 603-851-8624. The driveway is straight up and shifts will be cancelled.

There is a full kitchen on-site and you will be working in your own office space next to mine.

Tour: Discovering the Wonders of the UNH Astronomical Observatory

On September 7, a group of 28 Granite State Ambassadors (GSAs) visited the University of New Hampshire (UNH) campus in Durham to explore and learn about the UNH Astronomical Observatory.

This place is truly a gem, offering regular monthly viewing sessions, special programs, family-friendly events, and gatherings for the public to enjoy. With its impressive collection of astronomy equipment, including two domes with high light-gathering telescopes, a new digital telescope, and various portable telescopes, the observatory is a haven for astronomy enthusiasts.

Conversation with OLLI at UNH

OLLI at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) is a member-driven, volunteer based educational program for lifelong learners who are eager to explore ideas and interests in a safe and relaxed environment, with a community of peers. Volunteer curriculum committees develop programs in response to member interests. Courses are non-credit.

An Historic Day in Portsmouth at the Historical Society, John Paul Jones House and Strawbery Banke

On Wednesday, July 12th a group of about 18 GSA’s gathered in Portsmouth for an opportunity to learn about the city’s history.  Our first stop was the Portsmouth Historical Society on Middle Street.  We were greeted with coffee and pastries and enjoyed some social time before beginning our tour led by Program and Volunteer Coordinator Sarah Robbitts-Terry.

Blog: Lebanon is NH’s Community Arts Meca

A group of GSA welcome center volunteers participated in an informative and interesting tour of Lebanon NH’s arts scene hosted by the Upper Valley Business Alliance (https://www.uppervalleybusinessalliance.com/). Stops included the new welcome center in Colburn Park, the Lebanon Opera House, Upper Valley Music Center, and the AVA Gallery along with a poke through the Farmer’s Market. Colburn Park is a public gathering & entertainment venue at the heart of Lebanon’s historic district and is close to restaurants, shops, historic buildings and even the Northern Rail Trail.
