Learn from a GSA: Foraging for Spring Mushrooms
On April 28th, at 3:00 pm, we will continue our Learn from a GSA series with GSA Roz Lowen, who is a mycologist! Roz will talk about mushrooms in general, how to identify deadly mushrooms, and what could be found locally in the spring and early season.
Roz has a PhD from the City University of New York and did her research at Commonwealth Mycological Institute, formerly at Kew, England and the New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) in the Bronx. She was an honorary research associate at the NYBG for many years. Her specialty was a genus of ascomycetes. Roz has published about 20 research papers and discovered or renamed several species of fungi. She is retired but continues her mycological activities by serving as a consultant to the New England Poison Control Center and giving talks and workshops for various amateur mushroom clubs. She has also given talks for her local library, for garden clubs and for the central NH Mrc/CERT emergency response group. She has also led many walks in search of fungi.
