CANCELLED: Join us for an outing to the Salem area on Wednesday May 20th. We are planning to do lunch and then visit America’s Stonehenge in Salem. Depending on your schedule or interest, you are free to join us for one or both of the events.  They are 2 ½ miles away from one another on the same road. We will start with lunch at the Atkinson Resort & Country Club in Atkinson NH.

It is a state-of-the-art facility offering the public all of the amenities of some of the world’s finest country clubs. We plan on eating at the Stagecoach Grille, which is their main dinning location. During the warmer months, there is dining outside overlooking the 18th hole while sipping cool cocktails and enjoying entrees from their wood-fired grill. Visit their website listed below so you can see the facilities and checkout the menu.

Then we will proceed to America’s Stonehenge, which is less than 3 miles from the restaurant. America’s Stonehenge is maze of man-made chambers, walls and ceremonial meeting places. At over 4,000 years old it is most likely the oldest man-made construction in the United States.  Like Stonehenge in England, America’s Stonehenge was built by ancient people well versed in astronomy and stone construction. It has been determined that the site is an accurate astronomical calendar. It was, and still can be, used to determine specific solar and lunar events of the year.

The trail is on a gradual incline with some uneven rocky terrain. The length of the trail is 1/2 mile, and most visitors spend roughly one hour touring the site. You will have the option of doing the tour with a mobile app or a guide map. Admission is $13.00 for adults and $11.00 Seniors (65+).

Please sign up via the GSA Online Calendar System (the one you are used to). There will be a separate entry for the lunch and the tour. We will want to give the restaurant a count about a week before the lunch. Signups will be open in mid-April.

Keep in mind these are not official GSA events. We are all on our own for lunch and admission. We are encouraging you to wear your uniform as it does make a statement and a nice way to promote the organization.

These lunches are a wonderful opportunity to get to know other GSAs, check out places in NH and have fun! We hope you can make it!  Thank you to Christine and Phil for pulling this together.
