April 27 – May 5, 2024 – Volunteer opportunities open to all GSAs, your friends and family.

GSAs must wear your GSA uniform.

Baby Animals: Heritage Breeds at the Banke returns to Strawbery Banke! Volunteer needs include helping with the animals, ticketing, and check-in, welcoming and directing guests, assisting with heirloom seed giveaways, and staffing the Museum information table. Families are welcome to volunteer but all minors must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

Volunteer shifts are 2-3 hours long starting at 7am and end at 5pm.

What should volunteers know about the location?
Baby Animals: Heritage Breeds at the Banke takes place at Strawbery Banke Museum out on Puddle Dock under a large heated tent. Parking spots are limited.

What will volunteers do?
Those who volunteer at Baby Animals: Heritage Breeds at the Banke can expect to spend time under the large heated tent filled with over 14 breeds of rare heritage animals. There are opportunities to help with taking care of the animals, assisting with the Children’s educational programs, manning our seed giveaway, directing visitors, assisting with honey extractions, and making sure that this event is safe for our visitors and animals!

What will volunteers need to bring or wear?
Dress in layers and wear comfortable shoes! Feel free to bring a water bottle, or anything else you will need!

Duties to choose from:

Morning – Animal Care  
Assist exhibitor in cleaning of animal pens, feeding and watering of assigned animals, help up seating for children’s program. Should be comfortable working with farm animals!

Morning – Children’s Program Helper
Assist with the Children’s Program!

Morning – Ticket Checker/Greeter
Remind visitors not to touch animals, assist with watering animals as needed, help answer exhibit questions, direct traffic flow through tent. Should be comfortable interacting with the public.

Morning – Info/Seed Giveaway Table
Staff the info tent at the event; promote seed giveaway and other promotional offerings. Should have some general knowledge about plants/gardening and/or Strawbery Banke Museum/Portsmouth area.

Visitor Center Greeter
Help greet Baby Animals visitors at the Visitors Center and direct them to the tent.

Morning – Concessions/Retail
Sell snacks, beverages, and Baby Animals themed merchandise to visitors

Afternoon – Ticket Checker/Greeter Remind visitors not to touch animals, assist with watering animals as needed, help answer exhibit questions, direct traffic flow through tent. Should be comfortable interacting with the public.

Afternoon – Info/Seed Giveaway Table
Staff the info tent at the event; promote seed giveaway and other promotional offerings. Should have some general knowledge about plants/gardening and/or Strawbery Banke Museum/Portsmouth area.
